Why create a new party?

A fundamental transformation of the system

The Science and technology party is a federal political party that advocates for a fundamental transformation of the current socioeconomic system. This transformation can be considered a paradigm shift. We understand that a real, profound change is needed presently, and this change will facilitate the progressive adoption of more appropriate conducts within human affairs; conducts that are conducive to human and environmental well-being, thus ensuring the continued existence of the species within an interdependent, reinforced and diversified ecosystem.

This shift is one of global proportions and will thus necessitate, at the medium term, a global collaboration. Canada possesses some of the necessary ingredients to launch such a transformation, notably physical resources, human resources, as well as expertise in many scientific disciplines. We want to guarantee unprecedentedly high standards of living while also protecting the integrity of our planet. Obviously, we must define qualitatively our propositions because what are high standards of living? According to whom? It isn’t an easy affair to create a desirable and sustainable future for all.

Our greatest strength: Cooperation

Our analysis, and the solutions that stem from it, starts at the social context that underlies our innumerable interactions and that frames the relations that we share in society, whether at the individual, institutional, commercial/economic, or collective level. Let us summarize the basis of our findings. We hold the view that true cooperation within our species is what has allowed us to become such a powerful presence on the globe. True cooperation accounts for virtually every positive aspect of human society, ranging from the better facets of technology to the proven methods of science.

Concurrently, it is also our understanding that our greatest flaw, which finds its roots in scarcities (be they real, contrived or imagined), resides in our tendency to resort to competition. Fortunately, this social reality is mutable, but it is present, for now, at every level of the human existence. It accounts for the worst displays of human behaviour, ranging from socially corrosive to ecologically destructive. It is time for us to create a political, economic, and social environment that reflects these understandings; an environment that leverages on our strengths rather than our weaknesses. Words like science, technology, cooperation and competition, are part of a terminology that will be expanded upon further in order to avoid, as best we can, any misunderstanding.

Coopération

Maximizing well-being through science and technology

We propose to use the methods of science to enlighten us, to guide us, and to bring us together. We also propose to adequately use technology to maximize human and environmental well-being (the former being hardly possible without the latter).

Obviously, many questions or fears may be elicited by such statements. We strongly encourage everyone to read-on and to ask questions: a paradigm shift of this magnitude requires much willingness, openness, and patience. Ask questions, find credible answers, have respectful discussions, and, in other words, participate.

For us, it is a priority that we redesign our current socioeconomic system in order for it to be based on cooperation and solidarity rather than competition and rivalry. By adequately using the methods of science, a world of abundance becomes within reach and technology will be the tool with which our primary objectives will be met.
